政府文件是指由政府頒布或批準的公文，其種類包括: (1)決議，(2)決定， (3)命令，(4)公報 ，(5)公告， (6)通告， (7)意見，(8)通知， (9)通報，(10)報告， (11)請示，(12)批復， (13)議案，（14）條約，等等。
政府文件翻譯，以中文翻譯外文為例，首先要注意專有名詞的翻譯，例如，全國人民代表大會（The National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China）,最高人民檢察院（The Supreme People's Procuratorate of the People's Republic of China）,最高人民法院（The Supreme People's Court of the People's Republic of China）等；其次，要注意中國常用或通用詞匯與國際接軌；第三，避免直譯，例如，綠水青山就是金山銀山；第四，行文格式與所譯語言習慣一致；第五，符合所譯語言風俗習慣。
